The Pattern Repeats

Computers were first used by defense and governments in the 1940s.
The internet itself emerged from a U.S. defense project in 1969.
Decades later, both technologies reached the general public.
Now the same pattern appears to be repeating with AI.
The AI available to the public today may only represent the consumer layer beneath far more sophisticated systems already operating within defense, intelligence, and elite corporate ecosystems.
The discussion surrounding the “Mythos leak” intensified a critical global question:
Are we truly seeing the frontier of AI… or only what the public is allowed to see?
My thesis:
AGI may already exist in controlled institutional environments, while ASI could emerge far sooner than expected, potentially within less than a year — but may remain restricted to major power brokers rather than the general public.
